Contemporary Responses to the MTEL

As noted in Section Two, the problems with the MTEL have been studied and evaluated by the Pass Rate Study Group.  Currently, “between spring 2008 and winter 2010, 15 tests and 17 practice tests in the MTEL program are being updated or newly developed.  Test development will occur in two groups, with the first group to be administered for the first time in fall 2009” (Test Development Summary, 2008).  In the winter of 2009, the second group will be assessed and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will work with the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson to change and develop the exam.
